BSc in Information Technology (top-up)
Information technology encompasses many aspects of computer science, but focuses more on the computer technology needs of individuals and organizations. The topic includes software development and procurement, but also operations, support, and systems administration. This course places special emphasis on the application of computer technology in the enterprise: modeling and design of systems and data, design of databases, how to enhance the user experience, and how to ensure that software solutions meet customer needs. Due to the nature of this degree, you will develop the wide range of skills that many employers are looking for while keeping your career options open.
Subject information and delivery
- Final Year Project – compulsory
The top-up program consists of a compulsory single Subject ‘Final Year Project’ worth 60 credits. The Subject provides the opportunity for you to examine an area of particular interest within an appropriate organisational context. The Subject is designed to make a major contribution to your professional and intellectual development, by enabling you to demonstrate your capacity for sustained independent thought, learning, and critical reflection.
The purpose of this program is to deliver a practical and realistic solution to a business-related strategic challenge, which in turn is supported by appropriate reference to theoretical and conceptual analysis.
You will evidence this by producing a ‘Final Year Project’.
The Final Year Project is delivered and assessed by our International academic team using our virtual learning platform and direct support from your allocated supervisor.
The Consultancy Project Subject could be completed in one academic term of 15 weeks or may be studied part-time over two terms.
What are the course entry requirements?
Applicants for Direct Entry to this top-up programme will be expected to have 240 credits or equivalent gained on a related program such as Foundation Degree, OTHM, HND or Advanced Diploma acceptable to the University.
Mature students without formal qualifications, but with appropriate experience, may be admitted to the course in-line with the University’s admission statement regarding mature students.
Students whose first language is not English will be required to show some evidence of appropriate English language proficiency.
Mature students will also need to demonstrate how they will benefit from the programme through the submission of a personal statement.
